The Certificate in Theology is a one year program designed to prepare applicants access to Diploma in Theology that will qualify them for admission to the Bachelor of Art in Theology/ Religion at the University of Arusha. The objective of this programme of Certificate in Theology is to enable respective candidates to attain the access to the Diploma in Theology and Religion at the University of Arusha.
The Diploma in Theology is a two year program designed to prepare applicants who does not qualify for direct entry into either Bachelor of Theology or Bachelor of Religion. It serves as a link program for individuals who aspire to serve their churches as pastors and/ or religion teachers but they do not qualify for direct entry. Entry Requirement See general entrance qualifications in page 12. Objective of the Program The main objective of this programme of Diploma in Theology is to enable prospective candidates to attain the equivalent of A Level of academic qualifications that will give them access to a Bachelor of Art in Theology and Religion at the University of Arusha. Completion Requirements A student must have taken a minimum of 72 Credit Hours per programme with an overall GPA of 2.50 in all courses taken towards a Diploma in Theology with no grade less than B to complete the program.
To graduate with a bachelor's degree in theology or bachelor of arts degree in religion, the student must have: 1. A minimum of 120 semester credits. 2. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the concentration and minor areas, with at least a C grade in all courses listed under the concentration and minor area. 3. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.25 in all cognate courses leading either to BA in Religion or Bachelor of Theology with no grade less than a C in cognate courses. 4. Completion of a major research paper with a minimum of a C grade. 5. A student with D grade shall be eligible for supplementary examination and the one with E or F grade shall repeat the course.
B.A. in Religion is a three-year program designed for students interested in obtaining an academic degree in religion and becoming Bible teachers in schools and colleges. It also prepares students for postgraduate studies religion. However, the program does not prepare students to work as church pastors or chaplains. Students taking B.A. in Religion are required to take a minor as a second teaching subject. Those who will not take a minor need to choose about 24 credit hours from the courses that begin with 2 or 3 in the concentration area of Bachelor of Theology with exception of Biblical languages.
This is a three-year program designed to prepare students to work professionally as pastors in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and scholars in theology and religious studies regardless of denominational affiliation.
